PERMAKOTE® Shingle Roof Coating: The Ultimate Shield for Your Roof

We are thrilled to announce the latest innovation in our PERMAPRODUCTS™ lineup of premium elastomeric ceramic insulating protective roof coatings from Nationwide Coatings: PERMAKOTE® Shingle Roof Coating! Designed specifically for shingle roofs and available in any color, this cutting-edge product offers a revolutionary approach to extending the life of your shingle roof and enhancing its durability while protecting it from the elements. Insulating Energy Saving ceramic microspheres in our roof coating technology, PERMAKOTE® coating for roofs stands at the forefront of shingle roofing protection.

Why PERMAKOTE® Shingle Roof Coating?

PERMAKOTE® Shingle Roof Coating is engineered to address the unique challenges faced by shingle roofs. Traditional shingles can suffer from wear and tear over time due to exposure to harsh weather conditions, UV rays, and general environmental factors. PERMAKOTE® offers a comprehensive solution that not only prolongs the life of your shingle roof but also adds a formidable layer of ceramic elastomeric protection.

Key Features and Benefits

PERMAKOTE® elastomeric roof paint is available in any color, allowing you to beautify and enhance the curb appeal of your shingle roof. This durable shingle roof coating is specifically formulated to significantly extend the lifespan of shingle roofs by providing a robust protective barrier that prevents premature aging, cracking, and deterioration. As a result, your roof remains in top condition for years to come. The PERMAKOTE® Shingle Roof Coating waterproofing membrane repels water while allowing vapor to escape, ensuring breathability—a critical factor for the longevity of shingle roof coatings. Trapped water and condensation in non-permeable elastomeric coatings can lead to product failure and the growth of mold and mildew.

Advanced ceramic technology is incorporated into PERMAKOTE®, featuring a combination of insulating energy-saving ceramic pigments and ceramic microspheres. These ceramic particles reflect sunlight and heat, helping to keep your roof cooler and reducing thermal stress. As the coating cures, the microspheres settle and bond within the coating film, forming an insulating ceramic barrier and heat-dissipating coating. This technology not only provides extra durability but also extends the life of the elastomeric coating and roof system.

PERMAKOTE®'s advanced formulation ensures superior water resistance, helping protect your roof against leaks and water damage, which can otherwise lead to costly repairs and maintenance. Additionally, its excellent UV-resistant properties safeguard your shingle roof from the sun’s harmful effects, maintaining its integrity and appearance over time. Designed for ease of use, PERMAKOTE® can be applied seamlessly to shingle surfaces by both professional contractors and DIY enthusiasts, drying to a durable, elastomeric protective finish in any color.

In line with our commitment to environmental sustainability, PERMAKOTE® is formulated with eco-friendly resins and materials. This reduces the need for frequent roof replacements and minimizes waste, making it a responsible choice for homeowners and businesses alike.

How to Apply PERMAKOTE® Shingle Roof Coating

Applying PERMAKOTE® to a shingle roof is a simple process:

  1. STEP#1: VISUAL INSPECTION and REPLACEMENT of DAMAGED BUILDING MATERIALS The substrate to be coated must be in SOUND condition. Physically inspect the surface area for missing or damaged building materials. Replace and/or repair all damaged areas back to sound and solid condition.
  2. STEP#2: ROOF CLEANING Clean entire roof surface using a water and chlorine solution (approximately 1 quart chlorine to 5 gallons of water). Thoroughly remove all dirt, oil, grease, residues, mold, mildew, algae and any other surface contaminants. Severe mildew requires a stronger concentration of chlorine and scrubbing. When the shingle roof is completely cleaned, rinse with water only. Let the roof surface dry at least 12 hours before continuing. PERMAKOTE® has excellent mildew resistance, but these products will not kill mildew already on the surface.
  3. STEP#3: FIRST COAT of ROOF COATING Apply First Coat of Roof Coating using: 1- brush, 2- at least a one-inch nap roller, or 3- at least a one gallon per minute piston type airless sprayer with a recommended .025 tip size. Remove all line filters and gun filters before spraying. Apply the first coat at a rate of 100-125 square feet per gallon per coat over the entire roof surface. Wet film thickness of 14-16 mils resulting in dry film thickness of 8-10 mils. Let dry at least 12 hours before continuing.
  4. STEP#4: SECOND COAT of ROOF COATING Be sure entire surface is clean and free of all moisture. Be sure the entire area coated has a minimum dry film thickness of 8 mils. If not, then spot coat the deficient areas until the minimum dry film thickness is achieved. Apply Second Coat of Roof Coating using: 1- brush, 2- at least a one-inch nap roller, or 3- at least a one gallon per minute piston type airless sprayer with a recommended .025 tip size. Remove all line filters and gun filters before spraying. The second coat must be applied perpendicular to the first coat of PERMAKOTE® Elastomeric Shingle Roof Coating to complete the checkerboard pattern. Apply the second coat at a rate of 100-125 square feet per gallon per coat over the entire roof surface. Wet film thickness of 14-16 mils resulting in dry film thickness of 8-10 mils. Let dry at least 24 hours before Final Evaluation.
  5. STEP#5: FINAL EVALUATION At this time a detailed evaluation of the completed job will determine the quality of the workmanship and whether strict application specifications have been met. The entire roofing surface must be completely coated & sealed. Be sure to check that all roof areas are completely coated & sealed under permanently placed roof items such as roof top air conditioning units. Divide the roof into 1,000 square feet sections and randomly check one spot in each section for a dry film thickness of both coats of PERMAKOTE® at least 16 mils. Remember to touch up the penetration made by the dry film thickness gauge. If specifications have not been met, recoat the entire roof or deficient areas. Repeat evaluation and recoating until the required minimum dry film thickness is achieved.
